To survive any situation, be it you are stranded on the road or on top of a roof waiting for rescue, you need to sustain yourself for at least 6 days. The truth is, even rescuers themselves may have been affected by the calamity, so the response time could take awhile.
So while the lines are not that long in the Super Market, this is the perfect time to stock up your "6 Day Survival Kit."
Below is the list of items recommended by Dr. Ted Esguerra - the Expedition & Wilderness EMS Physician of the Mt. Everest team and the OIC for Specialized Medical Response team (Coast Guard Elite Rescue team).
1. Food & Water (3 Day supply per person that needs no refrigeration or cooking)
- Protein/Granola Bars
- Dried Fruit
- Crackers/Cereal
- Canned Tuna, Meat
- Juice, coffee, mulo sachets
- Candy/Gum
- Water (1 Gallon per person)
- Change of clothes
- Undergarments
- Rain Coat/ Poncho (can be converted to a mini-tent)
- Blankets, emergency heat blankets
- Plastic sheet
- Battery lighting (flashlights, lamps)
- Extra batteries
- Flares
- candles/ lighter/ water-proof matches
- Big pail/ plastic box w/ wheels or Duffel Bag (to put kit items in)
- Infant needs (if applicable)
- Can opener
- Dishes
- Shovel
- Radio (w/ batteries)
- Axe
- Pocket Knife
- Rope
- Duct tape
- First Aid Supplies & personal medication
- Toiletries (roll of toilet paper - remove center tube to easily flatten into zip-lock)
